SUMMARY:The Afrodiziac’s Jazz with Mike Dillon
DESCRIPTION:On this exceptional evening, the Marigny Opera House will host a very special show dedicated to Ethiopian Jazz music and to the composer Mulatu Astake.\nThe meeting between renowned vibraphonist and percussionist Mike Dillon and Ethiopian jazz band The Afrodiziac’s Jazz, promise to take you on a warm, unique, vibrant and timeless sound journey.\nThe Afrodiziac’s jazz: ( https://www.facebook.com/TheAfrodiziacs/ )\nFormed in New Orleans, LA, The Afrodisiac’s have taken their own perspective on the music of Mulatu Astake, other Ethiopian composers, as well as other African music, and juxtaposed it alongside jazz fusion, bebop, and a diverse array of the many influences of each member. Featuring tenor saxophone, baritone sax, trombone, keys, bass, and percussions, they provide intricate rhythms, bombastic horn lines, and tasty grooves tempered with jazz sensibilities and a focus on improvisation.\nMike Dillon: ( http://www.mikedillonvibes.com/ )\nHow many artists have been praised a “punk rock provocateur,” “jazz vibraphone visionary,” and “percussion virtuoso” in the same sentence? There’s only one: Mike Dillon. Whether through his affiliation with artists like Les Claypool, Primus, Rickie Lee Jones, and Ani Difranco, or collaborations such as Nolatet, Garage a Trois, The Dead Kenny G’s, Critters Buggin or bands he has led, including Mike Dillon Band, Mike Dillon’s New Orleans Punk Rock Percussion Consortium, Billy Goat and Hairy Apes BMX, the Texas-native has set his own standard for 25 years now. Over the past decade, Mike Dillon has released a number of acclaimed albums, intertwining a range of influences from Zappa-esque eccentricity to Fishbone punk funk, D.C. Go-Go to Milt Jackson-influenced vibraphone majesty.\nDoors at 7:00PM\n*None turned away for lack of funds – no pressure*\nWe accept cash, card and check at the door for donations. No advance sales available. Seating on first come, first serve basis.\n
