Recipients will receive an emailed receipt.\n\nThe workshop is a Continuing Education Unit for social workers. CEUs are required for every social worker to stay up to date on best practices and serve clients in impactful ways.\n\n**This program is approved for 3 general contact hours by NASW-LA as authorized by LABSWE.**\n\nPresenter – Kacey Thigpen, LMSW\nCo-Sponsor – Fred Buttell, Ph.D., LCSW\nWhy talk about weight?\n\nChallenge stereotypes and structural discrimination\nBetter understand weight as a social justice issue\nUtilize an intersectional lens to explore the connection between race, gender, sexuality, socioeconomic status, and weight\nLearn how to advocate for clients experiencing fatphobia\nIncrease knowledge about the fat liberation and body positivity movements\nDiscuss prevention of eating disorders, some of the most lethal mental health conditions\nPractice applying your new knowledge in small groups with other social workers\n\nAbout the Presenter – Kacey Thigpen, LMSW\nKacey Thigpen, LMSW, is a therapist at Perimeter Behavioral Hospital – New Orleans. Kacey graduated with a Masters in Social Work from the Tulane School of Social Work and served as SGA President. Kacey has a Bachelor’s in Sociology and English from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill. Kacey presented Intro to Fat Studies at the Tulane School of Social Work. During her internship at Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response, Kacey assisted in developing a CEU titled “Providing Trauma-Informed Services to the LGBTQ+ Community.” As TSSW SGA President, Kacey hosted a CEU at the Health Spot titled “Panelists for Sexual Assault Awareness &amp; Prevention.” While serving as the first Carolina College Advisor for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians on the Qualla Boundary in NC, Kacey presented on how to better serve rural, Black, Indigenous, and LBGTQ2S+ students and contributed to the College Advising Corps National Training Guide. Kacey uses any pronouns.
