SUMMARY:Easter Passion and Banquet of the Eucharist – Worship Society of St. Polycarp
DESCRIPTION:The Worship Society of St. Polycarp presents two experimental performance liturgies on Easter Morning: \nThe Passion (9am-10:30am): The passion of the Christ in crucifixion and the passion of Mother Earth as continuing to participate in Christ’s crucifixion, and\nThe Easter Banquet of Eucharist: 11:00 – 12:30. Theme: The Resurrection as fulfillment of creation. The service will include drama and a full meal as well as the sacrament.The food will be the traditional lamb, vegetables, shrimp and grits, champagne, wine, and water, served by Li’l Dizzy’s Restaurant (Wayne Baquet, owner) \nBoth services will include the performance of an Easter Cantata by Scott R. King, with service text by Bishop Joe Morris Doss. The directors of the dramatic parts of the service are the highly awarded and professionally recognized Kathy Randals of ArtSpot and Lisa D’Amour Lisa’s play, “Detroit” was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and won the Big Easy Award for Best Play of 2015.\nThe Easter services will be conducted by the Worship Society of St. Polycarp, a group sponsored by At the Threshold, an ecumenical organization for reform of the church. The Worship Society of St. Polycarp meets regularly each week to explore the way liturgy developed in the first three centuries, before evolving into particular traditions, such as the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestant.\nBoth services will serve as a moving and exciting celebration of Easter for Christian worshippers, as an opportunity to learn for those curious about the church, and as art for those who enjoy music and drama. \n
