LOUISIANA DANCES!

HOMECOMING/UN AUTRE SOIR, Marigny Opera Ballet’s program of two premieres at the Marigny Opera House, is an ode to Louisiana’s culture and traditions. The two newly commissioned works are accompanied by music composed and performed live by local favorite Sweet Crude Band.

The two choreographers present vastly different perspectives. Shane Urton (Homecoming) comes to us from Belgium’s Opera Ballet Vlaanderen. A native of North Carolina, his career to date has included positions with Joffrey Ballet, Royal New Zealand Ballet and the Norwegian National Ballet. Amalia Najera, choreographer of our second premiere, Un Autre Soir, is a Mexican-American dancer and dance maker recently graduated from Tulane University. Her work has already won national recognition, with a performance at the American College Dance Association in Washington, D.C. And in January this year Najera’s choreography for Verismo Opera’s MAID OF ORLEANS created a sensation on the Marigny Opera House stage.

About the Music

Sweet Crude are an indie pop and rock band formed in 2013 in New Orleans. The musicians are native Louisianians, from all four corners of the state, and the lyrics of their songs combine English and Louisiana French. The widely admired group has issued albums, Créatures and Officiel/Artificiel, along with extensive tours in the North America and Europe.
