In 2015, Louque set out to write at least one Louisiana holiday song per year. With these songs, he further illuminates St. James Parish and the Christmas Eve bonfires that line the Mississippi River where he grew up. He and Margaret Hebert began a new tradition, the Eve of the Eve annual holiday show at Grand Point Music Hall. The following night, they join the community on the levee, always including an old piano in their structure to set ablaze in honor of the river of song. “The Bonfire of the Ivories” has become a tradition for many who travel from New Orleans to feel the immense joie de vivre along the river that night.
Dustan Louque grew up in Grand Pointe, Louisiana, along the banks of the Mississippi River. The small town backdrop of tobacco fields, factories and little league parks of his youth contributed to his desire to connect the past and the present. His college years in Mississippi led him to his love of classical piano music and a growing love for writing and singing. Today, when he is not touring the country in his 1987 VW Westfalia, he can be found in his home in Lafayette, Louisiana.
