Easter Vigil – The Worship Society of St. Polycarp

This Easter three services will be offered at the Marigny Opera House, on the Saturday night before (April 15), and the Sunday morning of Easter (April 16). The overall theme of the services will focus on the environmental crisis and the way it is addressed in the passion and resurrection of Jesus of Nazareth.

Easter Vigil: Saturday 15 April: 10:30 – 11:30 pm, following the evening’s performance of the Marigny Opera Ballet’s “Orfeo.” (8pm-9:30pm). The theme of the Vigil will be creation theology, and the environmental crisis at hand. The one-hour service will be experimental performance liturgy – a moving and exciting celebration of Easter for Christian worshippers; an opportunity to learn, for those curious about the church; and as a performance for those who enjoy music and drama.

The Easter services will be conducted by the Worship Society of St. Polycarp, a group sponsored by At the Threshold, an ecumenical organization for reform of the church. The Worship Society of St. Polycarp meets regularly each week to explore the way liturgy developed in the first three centuries, before evolving into particular traditions, such as the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Protestant.

The event is finished.
