Break-ups were hard before texting was a thing.

This forty-minute opera reveals a woman – somewhere near the end of a codependent relationship – struggling to get through to her beloved over a vintage phone line. She is desperate and willing to try anything to capture the attention of her lover. Heightening her isolation, the characters on the other end of the line are neither seen nor heard by the audience.  Composed by Francis Poulenc in 1958, this one-act was inspired by Jean Cocteau’s 1928 play of the same name. Featuring Nancy Carey as the Woman, conducted by Alissa Rowe, and directed by Leicester Landon, the performance is in French with English supertitles.

After a potent production of Béla Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle in 2019, Salvage Art Productions debuts their new name and company for a light June lineup of Opera and Cabaret. Come for La Voix Humaine, and come back for Miss Rose in June / July.

The event is finished.
