Hailed as one of New Orleans’ “most prominent young singer/songwriters” (The Vinyl District), Mikayla Braun has been winning over fans with dynamically-deep musicianship and emotionally honest songwriting since launching her music career over a decade ago. Named one of the Top 10 New Orleans Musicians for 2023 (Where Y’at), Mikayla’s prowess as a powerhouse vocalist, fiery performer, and nuanced multi-instrumentalist has developed a dedicated fan base often found swooning at her live shows, as well as an admiring collective of her fellow New Orleans music community peers. Six years after Mikayla’s critically-acclaimed 2017 release ‘Synapse,’ she is thrilled to announce the release of ‘Drift’ with a celebratory album release show.
Accompanied by longtime collaborators Sam Albright (bass) and Cody Coulon (drums), Mikayla plans to perform the entirety of ‘Drift’ for the first time ever, with promises of guest stars galore. Having revealed such noteworthy names as Brad Walker (saxophone), Electric Yat Quartet (strings), and Renée Gros (vocals) joining in on the celebration (with more guests to be announced), it is hard to overstate the one-time-only energy surrounded by this album release event.
Ever-intentional, Braun chose to incorporate nature-driven sonic interludes between tracks to bolster elements of sound healing within, and outside of, formal musical parameters. Rumor has it that these interludes will be presented throughout the concert, cultivating an opera-house-sound-bath feel for all attendees to be washed in. Further, Mikayla will have Vinyl and CDs of ‘Drift’ available for purchase, allowing the audience to take the musical magic home.
Mikayla co-produced ‘Drift’ with Coulon, who brought Steve DeTroy (organ), Miles Lyons (trombone), and Miles Berry (saxophone) into the fold for the studio recordings. Rick Nelson (Marigny Studios) not only engineered and mixed the EP, but lent his musical talents to the recordings as well (cello, violin, and viola). Danielle Ryce (violin) made an appearance on the last track with an emotionally evocative performance to bring the record to a close.
Get a taste of ‘Drift’ ahead of the October 26 release show with its first two singles, ‘Slow Down’ (dropped via digital platforms on August 4) and ‘Magic’ (September 1), as well as upcoming ‘Jasmine’ out on September 29th.
