Yocho and Yochito! An evening of Salsa!

An evening of Afro-Caribbean-inspired salsa from two New Orleans-based bands: Yocho and Yochito. Suggested donation: $15

Yochito (7pm-7:45pm) is a small latin ensemble consisting of Shan Kenner (guitar), Claude Arthur (bass), and Coyah Gamble (vocals). The band focuses on the 20th century music of South and Central America, in particular Brazilian bossa novas, Argentine tangos, and boleros from Carribean and Mexican composers.

Yocho (8pm-9pm) is a salsa band based in New Orleans, a collective of artists who are passionate about the Afro-Caribbean music of Cuba; its history and form. The band experiments with different aspects of the style’s evolution, through its maturation in New York, and to its ultimate flowering all over the world. They focus on the intersection between dance and music, where lines are blurred between performers and audience. Daiki Hirano (musical direction, percussion), Jacob Brigell (bass, backup vocals), Nat Lawrence (piano), Coyah Gamble (lead vocals), and Kasey Ball (trumpet).
