New Orleans based quintet YOUSE has made their way through Louisiana blurring the lines of R&B and jazz, while creating an outlet for the musicality of it’s members. Original collaborators Ty Ellender and Laura Doyle have generated this creative space to spread innovative musical ideas within a community of like-minded artists. Their influences range from creators such as Hiatus Kaiyote and Robert Glasper for ideas of chordal structure, and take percussive and rhythmic inspiration from artists such as Yussef Dayes and Richard Spaven. After gaining multiple residencies in New Orleans and headlining their own shows throughout the last two years, YOUSE is now working on writing and recording their first original album to be released in 2024.

Jaudai Vappie is an emerging singer and songwriter from the New Orleans area, mainly influenced by R&B, soul, and hip hop. She has made appearances at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, and has the played with the likes of Donald Harrison, Stephen Foster, and more. She is also earning a bachelor’s degree at The University of New Orleans.

Hobson Owen is a guitarist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, currently based out of New Orleans. He works primarily in the fields of jazz, R&B, and gospel. Hobson is a versatile improviser who has appeared at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival alongside The Zion Harmonizers and Nineveh Baptist Church Mass Choir. He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies at The University of New Orleans where he has been recognized as an “Outstanding Freshman in Music.”

The event is finished.
