What can your voice actually do?

Join us for a free Vocal Health Day at the Marigny Opera House featuring voice specialist Joshua Hyde and Berlin-based vocal coach Florian Unruh.

Joshua Hyde will open the program with a conversation about vocal health, including common issues voice users should recognize, preventative care, when to seek medical evaluation, and some of the most persistent misconceptions surrounding the voice.

Josh is a speech-language pathologist, voice scientist, singer, and educator specializing in voice, upper-airway, and swallowing disorders. Their experience includes helping patients recover from head and neck cancer at the Ochsner Voice Center inside the Benson Cancer Center, as well as helping gender-diverse individuals discover voices that authentically reflect their identities. Josh’s research on voice and emotion has been published in the Journal of Voice and presented at the Voice Foundation Symposium. They also completed the Summer Vocology Institute, studying the physics of voice with Dr. Ingo Titze, and have taught the graduate-level Voice Disorders course at Xavier University for the past two years.

The program will continue with Florian Unruh, founder of VocalCenter.Berlin and a certified Estill Voice Master Trainer. Florian is also a university lecturer, composer, singer, choir conductor, and internationally active voice educator. His innovative teaching brings together vocal science, practical experimentation, and the individual needs of each performer. He was among the presenters at the 2025 Estill World Voice Symposium.

Florian will lead a free introduction to Estill Voice Training®, offering a practical look at how the structures of the human voice function and how they can be used intentionally to create different sounds and vocal qualities. Estill gives singers and speakers concrete tools for understanding and controlling the voice without prescribing a particular genre or aesthetic.

Participants will also experience Florian’s teaching firsthand through a practical masterclass, demonstrations, exercises, discussion, and opportunities to explore the voice in real time.

This day is perfect for the seriously curious: singers of every genre, actors, voice teachers, music educators, vocal coaches, conductors, speech and voice professionals, and anyone fascinated by how the human voice works.
